GPS Available on the New iPad

You can almost be sure these days that anything that has a 3G antenna is capable of Assisted GPS “A-GPS”.  The neat thing is that A-GPS is even better than plain old regular GPS.

For instance, the new iPad base model is location aware, though not as much as the 3G model. In other words, it can figure out it’s own location based on Wi-Fi signals, and figure out the direction it is facing using a digital compass. The 3G model can also determine it’s location using cellular phone towers and both models carry the accelerometer.
