User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Great Product but didn’t get my rebate as advertised
I absolutely love my Navigon – so user friendly. Would recomend the product for anyone, but was very disappointed that I did not receive any of the paperwork to receive the $[...] rebate that was advertised at the time I purchased the Navigon 7200T. I’m not sure I would order from
Amazon again.
3 Stars Why do I want a GPS ?
Before buying this unit you have to ask yourself, why do I want a GPS?
If you want to travel from point A to point B, its a great little product and I give it a 4 star. (I am very particular and few products ever get a 5 star with me.)
If you want a GPS to help you find different POI on long your trip then you should look elsewhere. I give it a 2 star. For me, I want a GPS that will get me from point A to B and find POI as I need them and this simply does not satisfy my needs.
I am sending the product back and getting a Garwin.
5 Stars Great GPS!
I love this GPS. I originally started out with a Garmin nuvi (not sure of the exact model. 760 maybe?) The Garmin was nice, I really liked it, but in order to hear it you had to turn it up to max volume which was always scratchy/static-y. So I did some research and found this GPS.
I was a little unsure at first, since it’s not a common brand and some of the reviews were a little skeptical to me. I purchased it however, and I am so glad I did!
The demo mode is great, which is a mode that works when there are not enough satellites to completely calculate your route. (like if you’re in your house) This mode starts you at a location close to your final destination and highlights the route, so it shows you part of how to get there. Very nice to me since I like planning.
The lane assist is also VERY helpful. It highlights all the possible lanes that you could be in so you are never doubting if you need to switch lanes, etc. I feel this would be a very nice improvement for Garmin.
The 3d views are also very nice and realistic. I especially like how this GPS highlights fast food restaurants, rest stops, car dealerships, etc. VERY helpful when driving and you need to make a quick stop.
The only con I’ve found with this GPS thus far is the fact that you can’t search for something by its title. For example, you can’t search for McDonald’s. You’d have to search for a city and then find McDonald’s from there. So if the city doesn’t have a McDonald’s but a city 5 minutes away has one, you may not find it.
However, I’ve found that you usually know what city you’re in, so searching for restaurants, etc. is easy by searching nearby instead of a specific city. But still just being able to type in a certain restaurant would be nice and my Garmin was able to do that.
Overall, I love this GPS. I don’t regret buying it at all. Major improvement over my Garmin. The Zagat rating feature is very handy, as is the traffic alerts. It also says “caution” when you drive 10mph over the speed limit (if you turn this feature on. my dad found this to be annoying, but i find it handy). I feel that Garmin has a lot to learn from this GPS! Great buy, especially for the price!
3 Stars ok but nothign great
The product that i purchased i thought would have been better. For the price it does what is asked but there are several thigns i do not like of it. First the keys to press are way to small. i almost have to take the nav off the window to type since they are so small and this is the wide screen version. by no means do i have big hands and my gf who is even smaller has issues with it. the live traffic that it says it has works but with issues. first it must be plugged into the power source which is annoying. it does not reroute you like some of the others even though it says it will. overall i woudl give the product a C+ for its screen but with its many issues i would not recommend
4 Stars Won it in a contest, and like it a lot so far!
First, let me say that I am new to GPS. If you want a review from someone who has tried Garmins and Tom Tom’s then keep reading.
I was planning on purchasing the Navigon 2200T, and then I had to go and win myself the 7200T.
Anyway, here is my review:
Ease of use:
There has bee a little bit of a learning curve. I have had a little difficulty finding how to use various items on this device. I think this would likley have been true with any GPS I purchased. The letters are a little on the small side. And it it frustrating when entering the name of the location in your favorite places that there doesn’t seem to be a section for symbols or lower case letters. I want to save a location as “Dan’s House” and I can only seem to type “DANS HOUSE”
Directions: This thing has given me some good directions and some bad directions. I have adjusted the routing to avoid local roads yet there is one point on a major road where it asks me to get off and take local roads and meet up with the main road further down the way. Deffinately it is a shorter route, but with traffic lights it is slower. Overall, the routes are good though, and have even shown me some better ways to get places I travel to frequently.
Reality View: I like this feature. It is nice. I got the impression that there was little variability to the reality view cause all the pictures of it I have seen have looked the same. Yet I have been somewhat surprised. I have been to several unique interesctions where it is spot on. There was one time where it almost tripped me up. I was getting on to a road and I was supposed to get off at the first exit like really quick after I got on. It went to realty view before I was even fully on the road and it was really confusing. It also sometimes goes into reality view too soon if there are multiple exits in very quick succession and you need to listen to the voice prompts.
Speaker: The speaker volume has been very good. I turned it down and I could still hear it over moderate radio.
Mount& Included Extras. The mount works well. The build quality seems fine. I have nothing to compare it to, but seems sturdy. The dash adapter kit it talks about is simply a disk with a sticky back. You stick onto your dashboard and then use the window mount on the dash. I dislike that it doesn’t seem to come with any way to charge it outside the car, as it seems that the usb cord doesn’t charge it when connected to computer.
I love the speed limit and I love that it warns my by saying caution when I go more than 10 miles above the speed limit and I love that the amount over the speed limit it warns you is adjustable.
Speed of Calculations: There is a very small but noticeable calculation whenplanning the route initially, maybe 10 seconds. Rerouting times, as far as I have been able to tell have been rear instant. Certainly less than 5 seconds.
POI. I never really figured I would use the POI database much. I mostly want it to get from point A to B without worry. However, even for me, the POI seems insufficient. And unlike Garmin and others, you can’t just download POI’s and install them! There was a program called POIwarner that functioned with older Navigons, but I have been informed it diesn’t support the newest Navigons. I would love to be able to ad the POI’s I need most, but I can’t! Annoying. Also, the POI searching function is far from intuitive.
Signal: I don’t know how to check how many sateites it connects to or whatever, but I have not had a problem with conneting. Once when starting the car in manhattan, it took half a block before it established a connection, but it seemed to maintain this connection through the midtown tunnel.
Bluetooth: I have never cared about bluetooth. I wuldn’t use it and can’t attest to it’s functionality on this device.
I would really suggest that if POI’s aren’t a big thing, that you consider Navigon. They give you newer maps cheaper than anyone and they have the free traffic (Which I haven’t really used much yet) and lots of cool features. Their interfaces aren’t the most intuitive, but so far I am very happy.
Pros of Owning a GPS in general: I LOVE having a GPS. I have never been great with directins. I get lost. What I can do now is trust that this device can get me home. In manhattan, there was an accident in the midtown tunnell and I got stuck in traffic waiting to even get to the approach. I was going to northern LI. I decided to leave the ramp at the first option and take the FDR south. I knew how to get home from the Brooklyn Bridge, but that involved driving a ways south and then just as far back north trhough Brooklyn. With traffic this coud be a lengthy endeavor. I had never taken the williamsburg bridge, but I knew it was a shorter route. I simply took the bridge and the GPS did the rest, quickly recalculating and leading me right to where I wanted to go. If I hadn’t had the GPS, I would either have been nervous to leave the midtown tunnell or I would have driven far out of my way to take a fmaililar route. The GPS device gives me freedom:)
